Where Your DTC Brand Is Growing
Your best market is one your heatmap can't show you
Somewhere in the country, a town you have never run an ad in is buying your product this week. Two neighbors told three friends. A group chat did the rest. Your dashboard shows the orders. It does not show that they came from each other.
That is the growth you cannot see. It is usually the growth worth the most.
Most DTC brands never find it, because the one map they own points the other way.
What a customer heatmap actually shows you
Open your analytics, plot your customers on a map, and the bright spots land on your biggest cities. Los Angeles. New York. Chicago. It looks like insight. It is a population map wearing your logo.
A customer heatmap shows where you already sold. Those bright spots are your oldest, largest markets, the ones you already won. Aim next quarter's budget at them and you pay to reach people who found you two years ago.
The map you need answers a different question. Not where are we dense. Where are we spreading.
Density is not growth
Picture two ZIP codes for a skincare brand doing three million a year.
One is a dense suburb of Dallas. Two hundred customers, flat for a year. The other is a small town outside Asheville. Forty customers, and the count doubled in a quarter.
The heatmap makes Dallas glow and leaves Asheville dark. But Dallas is finished growing and Asheville is catching fire. Dense is a market you already have. Growing is a market arriving. You want the second one, and the picture that sells you the first one hides it.
You can read this from a file you already have
Here is the part most brands do not know. You do not need to buy new data to see any of it. You already have the file.
Every order carries a date and a place. Line those orders up by ZIP code and by month, and you hold a small time series for every corner of the country where you have customers. Forty orders in a town, and whether that count is climbing or flat, is written in the export you can pull today.
That is what it means to read your own customer file. We place each customer in a ZIP, watch the count move over time and let your own history tell us where you are catching on. Your contacts never leave the file. We hash the emails and use the addresses only to find the ZIP.
Two things flatter a market, and neither is word of mouth
A market can look hot for boring reasons.
The first is size. A big place produces big numbers no matter what. The second is paid spend. Run ads into a metro and of course orders rise there. That is you buying growth, not the market spreading on its own.
So we set both aside. We strip out the sales your ads paid for and the sales that come from a place just being big. What is left is momentum, the growth your size and your spend cannot explain. That residual is the signal. It is the closest honest reading you can get of your brand moving person to person.
The signal, scored and ranked
We score every ZIP from 0 to 100 by that momentum, so the places catching on rise to the top and the places that only look busy sink.
Some ZIPs spike for a reason that is not organic. When a cell looks hot but shows none of the spreading fingerprint, we flag it so you never mistake an ad bump for word of mouth. We tell you it is not organic. We do not guess what caused it. We can prove a ZIP lacks the pattern. We cannot prove what drove the spike, so we do not pretend to.
Prediction you can actually check
A ranking is only worth something if it holds up. So we test ours against your own past.
We split your history, learn on the older half and check whether the ZIPs we called hot actually grew in the half we hid. Then we tell you how often we were right, misses included. After a campaign runs, we hold a set of ZIPs back, compare them to the ones you targeted and show how much more the targeted ones grew.
That lift number is measured, not promised. It is yours, and you can take it to your CFO.
From a map to a mailing
A heatmap is where the work usually ends. A picture, and then you are on your own.
We keep going. The ranked ZIPs come formatted for the channels you already run, direct mail and EDDM, CTV, DOOH, social and email to your own list. One list, every customer already placed, no duplicates.
We do not run your ads. We do not print your mail. We are the targeting layer, you activate. You decide where the budget goes. That part was always yours.
See where you are growing
Your brand is spreading somewhere right now. It is in the file on your laptop, under the map that only shows you where you have already been.
Send us your customer list and see your own map. The first read comes back within days, growth and density side by side, so you can finally tell the market you already own from the one arriving.
